February is Black History Month, a celebration of Black history and achievement as well as an opportunity for us to drive results toward ensuring our law firms are places of inclusion and belonging for our Black colleagues.
For 2025, the theme of Black History Month is “African Americans and Labor,” focusing on the various and profound ways that work, and all kinds of working — free and unfree, skilled and unskilled, vocational and voluntary — intersect with the collective experiences of Black people. This year’s theme encourages broad reflections on the convergences of Black people’s work and their workplaces in all their iterations, as the work of Black people has been transformational throughout the United States, Africa and the Diaspora. Additionally, 2025 also marks the 100th anniversary of labor organizer and civil rights activist A. Philip Randolph’s creation of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and Maids. It was the first Black union to receive a charter in the American Federation of Labor.
