As we come into this season of gratitude we want to share with you some of the ways that PSALA is giving back to the community and to ask for your help with our current project.
In recognition of the many people that struggle with food and housing insecurity and the increase in domestic violence cases during the pandemic, we’ve partnered with an amazing local charity, Mary’s Place. With your help, we raised $5,000 for them during our Law Firm Leaders event, and they’ve also asked for our help with a new project so we’re reaching out to all of you with the hope that you, your co-workers, and your families can participate (this could be a great lunch event (virtual or in-person) for all of your firms)!
A kind word or gesture can mean a great deal to those struggling with homelessness, particularly during the winter season, so we’re collecting handmade cards or notes for the Mary’s Place residents. This is a great project for the whole family and an easy way for your firm to brighten someone’s day.
The details of this project are listed in the attached documents, but some things they’ve asked for are: Holiday cards – Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year’s, Birthday cards – especially for children who live in the shelter, Welcome cards – moving into a shelter can be scary, especially for younger kids or those escaping domestic violence situations, Messages of hope or positivity that can be posted around the shelter.
Card Making and Corporate Volunteer OpportunitiesThe impact that you can make through this project cannot be overstated, especially given how quick and easy it is. To make it even easier, we are happy to collect the cards at the Winter Social in December. We will also be collecting disposable face masks (both kid and adult sizes).
All cards are donated to Mary’s Place Seattle!
As always, many thanks from your PSALA Board Members!
